Today, we're talking about something that most fans don't see when they look at a fight card. They see one fighter walking to the cage… but what they don’t see is the entire room that prepared with them.
We also touch on the subject of overcoaching
Walk into almost any developing fight gym, and you will eventually see the same scenario unfold. A pair of inexperienced fighters are drilling or sparring while several other inexperienced fighters gather around offering advice. The problem is not that they want to help. The problem is how they help. Instead of identifying the actual weakness in the moment, they begin offering a stream of instructions—“throw the jab,” “circle out,” “keep your hands up,” “shoot the takedown”—without ever diagnosing what the real problem is. The result is confusion. The fighter receiving the advice is overloaded with information, and the person giving the advice is often speaking from enthusiasm rather than understanding.

Promotions need fighters — but fighters also need ecosystems.
Ngannou became bigger than the league he joined. When that happens, matchmaking becomes difficult because the promotion has to build an entire narrative and opponent pool around one athlete. At the regional level you see the same thing when a promotion creates a star but doesn’t have the roster depth to keep feeding meaningful fights.

An athlete’s career isn’t just sweat and discipline — it’s travel, coaching, food, gear, medical bills, licensing, marketing, and time off work. The funding model behind a fighter often determines how far they can go.
