In earlier eras, WWE’s version of “real” meant bringing in legitimate athletes — football players, Olympians, tough fighters, strongmen, and eventually MMA competitors — to make professional wrestling feel physically authentic. The emphasis was on believable impact, athletic legitimacy, and the blurred line between fighting and performance.
