Promotions need fighters — but fighters also need ecosystems.

Ngannou became bigger than the league he joined. When that happens, matchmaking becomes difficult because the promotion has to build an entire narrative and opponent pool around one athlete. At the regional level you see the same thing when a promotion creates a star but doesn’t have the roster depth to keep feeding meaningful fights.
